Who Can Benefit from Deep TMS?

Deep TMS is clinically proven to help individuals struggling with:

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Smoking Cessation

TMS for Depression

TMS is a safe, FDA-cleared treatment for depression that targets the part of your brain responsible for mood regulation — the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). By using gentle magnetic pulses, TMS helps “reboot” underactive areas of the brain associated with low mood, motivation, and emotional resilience.

  • Stimulates areas responsible for healthy mood control

  • No medication, sedation, or downtime

  • Well-tolerated — minimal side effects like scalp tenderness

TMS for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

TMS helps people with OCD by calming the brain circuits that are stuck in “overdrive,” especially in regions like the anterior cingulate cortex and supplementary motor area. This non-invasive treatment has been FDA-cleared for individuals who haven’t responded to therapy or medication.

  • Calms overactive brain areas linked to intrusive thoughts

  • Improves control over behaviors and emotional regulation

  • Offers hope when other options haven’t worked

TMS for Smoking Cessation

TMS can help you break free from nicotine addiction by targeting brain areas involved in craving, reward, and impulse control — especially the prefrontal cortex and insula. This groundbreaking, non-drug approach helps you regain control over your urges and make lasting change.

  • Targets cravings at the neurological level

  • No medications or chemicals involved

  • 20-minute outpatient sessions, 5 days a week for 3–6 weeks

Why Deep TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment for individuals with treatment-resistant depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and smoking cessation. At NPBTC, we offer Deep TMS Therapy—an advanced form of TMS that uses a specialized helmet to deliver magnetic pulses deeper into targeted areas of the brain. The goal is to modulate neural activity in specific areas of the brain, helping to restore healthy brain function without the need for medication.

✓ No anesthesia, no downtime
✓ Proven effective for treatment-resistant depression, OCD & smoking cessation
✓ No systemic side effects; return to daily activities right after each session
✓ Well-tolerated alternative to medication

How Deep TMS Works

Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate deeper regions of the brain associated with mood, behavior, and motivation. At NPBTC, we use BrainsWay’s patented H-Coil technology to deliver highly targeted stimulation directly to the prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate, and other areas related to depression, OCD, and smoking cessation.

Patients are seated comfortably and remain awake during each 20-minute session. There’s no sedation, no recovery time, and most patients report only minor discomfort that fades after the first few visits.

What Sets Our Deep TMS Program Apart

At NPBTC, your TMS journey is supervised by Dr. Sonya Knight, a board-certified psychiatrist and neurologist with extensive experience in treating mood disorders. We use the BrainsWay Deep TMS system, which offers superior brain target depth and accuracy compared to standard TMS coils.

Your treatment plan begins with a consultation and mapping session. From there, you’ll attend daily sessions (approximately 20 minutes each) over the course of several weeks. Treatments are well-tolerated, medication-free, and require no downtime—so you can return to your normal day immediately after.

What to Expect During TMS Treatment

During each session, you’ll sit comfortably in a chair while wearing the Deep TMS helmet. Magnetic pulses regulate the neural activity in the specific brain regions associated with depression, OCD, and smoking addiction. Most patients report minimal discomfort—if any—and many begin noticing improvements within the first few weeks of treatment.

Your TMS treatment plan includes:

  • 6 weeks of treatment, 5 sessions per week
  • Each session lasts about 20 minutes
  • No post-treatment downtime. You can drive yourself home afterward.

You’ll be cared for by a certified TMS technician and checked in on regularly by our clinical team to ensure your progress is tracked and personalized.

“TMS changed everything. I’d tried multiple antidepressants with no results, and this was the first time I actually felt like myself again.”
